Oprah address former employees at her goodbye party

A big part of our services includes special events. We were hired to shoot Oprah’s going away party in Chicago. Motion’s role was simply to shoot her going away address to the 500 or so Harpo employees. They were treated to a spectacular party, with great food and drink. Many danced the night away. Nascar Images, the production house that handles all Nascar related media events, hired Motion Video to supply the crew for a satellite media tour featuring Danica Patrick. Danica had just formally announced she was switching from Indy car to Nascar. A move welcomed by all in Nascar nation as she has become the face of modern day racing. A satellite media tour is where the subject sits in interview seat all morning, and every 5 minutes or so she is connected via satellite to a morning news program. Motion Inc was hired by Potenza Productions to shoot the 2011 Illinois Organ Donor commercial to be aired on all networks the entire month of april in the Chicagoland area. This program is sponsored by the Secretary of State, Jesse White, who is a big believer that donation gives life to those in need. Every year they spearhead a media push to bring awareness to the masses.

This year Adelstein|Liston did the creative and post production. Motion Inc. shot the spot using the new Panasonic AF-100. DP Mike Kaufman chose the new camera for its ability to handle the extreme contrasts when using a white background. The girl in the video is 13 year Mikahla who received a heart transplant when she was nine. Her colorful wardrobe and personality really popped on the screen. Britteny Payton, daughter of the great Walter, voiced the piece and joined Mikahla for the close.

At the 2011 International Housewares Show, Motion Inc. was put to the test. The show took place March 6-8 at McCormick place in Chicago. We were contracted to shoot 32 videos of different exhibtors over the three days. At each of the booths a spokesman presented their new product releases for the upcoming year. Emilie Barta hosted the worldwind three days keeping everyone focused on the task at hand. Motion then cut the 32 videos into 2-3 minute segments which are now being broadcast at Housewares TV .

The Challenge here was the quick turnaround. The 32 complete product videos were completed in 7 days. The response from the IHA has been tremendous we look forward to working with them and Emilie in the future. For more info goto www.motionvideo.tv.

Grammy winning artists, Lady Antebellum preformed for a private party of 100 people in Augusta, Ga. april 2009. Motion Inc was there to capture a couple songs from the hour long set. We used two cameras and the front of house board provided a mix of the unplugged performance. You knew they were on the verge of something big with the way their sultry southern voices soothed the lucky, intimate audience. Motion Video’s Post Production department is very “in tune” with utilizing music beds to set the tone of our edited video projects.Music really helps with the flow and emotional feel of a video, that is often overlooked. We use licensed songs we own, along with  custom composed music beds designed using Garage Band and Soundtrack. Also cutting to the beat, helps accentuate visual elements that really give our videos the edge over the competition.

Black friday is a big day for the TV news industry. It’s a day that really sets the tone for the upcoming retail holiday season. Which in turn is an economic indicator,that gauges where the US economy is in regards to the consumer. All that being said there is great interest from many news organizations throughout the country and Canada. NBC hired Motion Inc., to do live shots at a mall outside Chicago, in Oak Brook, Il.. to help tell the story to the viewer. Below is a shot with reporter Kristen Dahlgren, for “The Today Show”.

I had Kristen walk torwards the camera, covering about 50 feet, navigating her way through the crowd in an attempt to show the viewer the shoppers were out in full force. It takes a 4 person crew to pull off a shot like this. Reporter(talent), producer(coordination), cameraman(visual, audio), satellite truck operator (technical). Every story you work with a different crew,. this particular day,  I was lucky to work with the best.

Technology is changing fast in the video production world. The highly sought after “35mm film look” is now achievable for a fraction of what it cost 5 years ago. This spot shot and edited by Motion Inc. Chicago, using 25 and 80mm prime lenses on a Panasonic  HVX 170 P2 Camera,  720p/24pn format.

The high speed prime lenses give a very shallow depth of field video look, not only providing a very rich, attractive look but also focusing  the viewer’s attention on the subject, rather than the background. Motion has purchased the new Panasonic AF-100,

a 4/3” image sensor camera set in a full size video camera body for delivery in december 2010. This camera will give even more flexibly for TV commercial production, as it will be better in low light and also record in 1080p format.

Covering the President is always a big deal as a news cameraman. If often entails extra effort and early calls in order to clear the stringent security detail. Twice this year Motion Video has been hired to cover Presidential visits and speeches. In June, Gulfport Mississippi, President Obama came to assure the citizens of Mississippi that the government will be there to help them overcome the oil spill. The video below shows the motorcade whipping down the highway en route to Air Force 1. In Late July, Obama came to the newly retooled Ford Motor plant in Chicago to address the workers and ensure them the American auto industry will be back on top again.

NBC hired Motion Video to go to the Gulf region to help cover the tragedy. In the 3 weeks i spent there, we traveled 4 states, seeing the devastation first hand. There were many challenges bringing the story to you, including 110 degree heat indexes and feeling the pain and frustration from interviewing the locals, who were seeing an important way of life being slowly destroyed. Thanks to our team, Reporter- Kristen Dahlgren, Producers JoEllen Ruvoli and Jodie Nichols for being such professionals and making my job as ENG camera crew easier.
